Chatai Chair

This chair was designed by Gunjan Gupta and crafted by GreenEarth. Two Madur Kathi mats, handwoven from indigenous sedge grass, were fitted onto a sculptural metal seating frame. A remodelling of India's chatai mat, elevated from the ground into furniture, the work reimagines one of the country's oldest weaving traditions while honouring the skill of its makers.
