This basket by Junpei Kawaguchi was woven from rattan using a weaving technique developed by the artist to enhance the material’s natural variations in hardness and density. Clusters of softer sections contrast with harder areas, forming indentations and relief. Exploring the diverse textures found within the material, the work celebrates the subtle variations that develop within the same plant as it grows below sun and shade.
