Apollo and the Muses; Canopic jar; Pouring jug with zoomorphic head

These vessels by Jacques Monneraud were wheel thrown from several types of stoneware, and sculpted with minimal use of tools. They were finished with a restrained application of glaze and fired at high temperature. Paying tribute to major ceramic cultures, the pieces subvert classical codes through a distinctive cardboard aesthetic. The items reinterpret the forms of a Wedgwood vase, an ancient Egyptian canopic jar and a Chinese Song pouring vessel, and consist of 'frozen' packaging constructions that critically question consumer society.
