Auka

Auka, derived from the Old Norse word for 'accumulation', reflects both the ecological catastrophe of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and the ongoing potential of reuse. Made from porcelain, parian clay and slip, salvaged ceramic components, electroformed salvaged metals, low-fire mortar and sand, the work serves as a proposal for reducing and repurposing waste while acting as a metaphor for entanglement and persistence. Like the garbage patch itself, Auka is a perpetual work in progress, continually evolving as new salvaged components are integrated into its structure.
