HOMO FABER FELLOWSHIP

Crazy Diamond

Made from porcelain, clay from a carpark, salvaged packing materials and 24 carat gold lustre, this sculptural assemblage draws on ideas of transformation and renewal. Inspired by the Mexico City landfill project, in which mycelium was trained to digest discarded diapers and produce toxin-free oyster mushrooms, the piece reflects on the generative potential of decay. In a similar spirit, and echoing the philosophy of kintsugi, salvaged materials are adorned with gold lustre in celebration of their reimagined life.
