This is a sculptural clay vessel made from hand-dug clay and foraged materials. This piece comes entirely from the land Belinda Blignaut was living on at the time, a farm in a remote part of the Western Cape. During this time of solitude, often practising silence, she learned the language of the natural world, Earth, plants, stones and wild animals. The text inscribed onto the belly of the vessel says, “I am red dirt, rock, sand, grit, dust."
