Workshop on Lithuanian folk linocutting

with Adelė Gančierė

From idea to execution: a Lithuanian folk design

Woodcuts and linocuts are an important part of Lithuanian folk culture. The cuttings reflect a perception of the world, with their unique look both decorative and emotional. Adelė Gančierė, a young but experienced wood and lino cutter, will teach participants how to express their feelings through this craft and how to make designs look traditional. She will guide participants from discussing the idea to explaining the basic principles of composition and subtleties of technique. Patience and being meticulous are required in order to cut an original print, but the result is worth the effort. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
