Venetian mask making

with Ca' Macana

Learn papier-mâché and decoration techniques

The ancient art of Venetian mask making revives at Ca’ Macana. Here anyone (adult or child) can be a 'mascarero' (Venetian for mask-maker) for one day, learning the know-how of this fascinating craft. During the course, participants create their own papier-mâché mask from a mould, and decorate it choosing from various professional techniques. After making the mask together with a Ca’ Macana expert, participants can paint it in the most traditional way or freely customize it using feathers, rhinestones and other materials. At the end of the process the mask will be ready to be taken home. Participants will also be given a book on the culture of masks in Venice.
