with Loreta Lichtarovičienė

Learn about the Lithuanian tradition of himmeli

Himmeli for Lithuanians is a miniature model of the world, which is created for special occasions: the birth a child, wedding, baptism, and such like. In Lithuanian culture a double-storied himmeli is meant for a couple or family, and bestows upon them double of everything that is good. In this workshop you will learn all about this and Lithuanian straw himmeli making traditions from experienced artisan Loreta Lichtarovičienė. Under her guidance you will learn to craft this openwork object which will bring harmony into your home. For this himmeli, you need 60 rye straw strips, a needle, thread, knowledge, and a little bit of patience and precision.
