Devoré screen printing class near Bayonne

with Andrea Ellis

Burning the fabric away

Andrea Ellis has been experimenting with devoré for over 30 years, inspired by her visits to textile museums, where she saw 19th and 20th century devoré velvets. In this class, Andrea will teach you how to mix and use a devoré paste to print on a selection of mixed fibre fabrics including silk, cotton, linen and nylon. Under the effect of heat, the paste dissolves some of the fibres and leaves a transparent area. Here, you can achieve beautiful colour effects on two-tone fabrics, one colour having been burned away to reveal another. Using this technique, you can create a small bag, a cushion or even customise garments. No previous experience is required, as you will be using silk screens available in Andrea's studio.
