Elisabetta & Alessandro Bianchi

With Elisabetta & Alessandro Bianchi

Some call it scagliola, others marble stucco or artificial marble: all these terms refer to a traditional craft originally developed in central Italy which bloomed in Florence in the 17th century. Initially it was regarded as a 'poorer' version of Commesso Fiorentino, which is made with semi-precious stones. But in time, scagliola developed into an art, and today Bianco Bianchi’s workshop is considered to be an international point of reference for this particular type of technique. Alessandro and Elisabetta, Bianco’s son and daughter, welcome visitors to their studio to illustrate the production process of scagliola and show some of the pieces produced by Bianco Bianchi. At the end of the visit, participants can familiarise themselves with the technique and materials. The visit is in Italian, but a translation service in English can be booked at a cost of 120 euros. This experience should be reserved in advance.
