Filigree making workshop in Malta

Jewellery making

Marsaskala, Malta

Filigree is an art of intricate metalwork, which is made with minute threads of silver or gold that are shaped through soldering into detailed shapes. The Knights of St. John originally brought the craft to Malta back in the 16th century, when they would use the technique to embellish churches and other places of worship. Today, master craftsman Gaetano Saliba continues this tradition, and shares his expertise through this one-day course that is suitable for all. Participants are taught the basics of how to shape a frame, twist wire, fill-out a frame, solder, and finally polish a piece to create a unique item of filigree jewellery.
