The House of Filigree celebrates handmade filigree, a technique of coiling thin gold threads into delicate lace-like patterns. It is an active response by founders Pedro and Luisa Rosas to defend this Portuguese ancestral art threatened by less-refined machined processes. Offering a holistic experience, visitors walk through a museum where family-owned and auction-bought items from the mid-19th to 20th centuries are exhibited. Filigree is also magnificently displayed in a gallery showing customs and festivities in Northern Portugal while artisans in the atelier create modern pieces that can be bought.
