Leaving their mark in the ceramic world

The Vista Alegre porcelain manufactory, located in Ílhavo – a quiet seaside city in Northern Portugal – is unquestionably part of the country’s cultural heritage. Founded in 1824 by José Ferreira Pinto Basto, a visionary merchant, Vista Alegre was given the Royal Factory title by King João VI in recognition of its achievements. The manufactory continuously refined its pieces as porcelain techniques improved and international master artisans were invited to train local artisans who in turn became highly skilled.

Recognised for its artistry and quality, Vista Alegre pieces can be seen at official receptions given by the President of Portugal and also in several European Royal Houses. Collaborating with renown designers has enabled the manufactory to develop contemporary collections combining latest production techniques with the hand painting prowess of the in-house artisans. Vista Alegre’s artistic stance stands out also in projects like Fabola, a poetic piece of an historical boar head terrine co-created with designer Sam Baron and presented in Milano at Doppia Firma 2019.
