James Tufenkian, the founder of Tufenkian Artisan Carpets started his business back in 1985 in Nepal. Later in 2003 he established Tufenkian Carpets Armenia with a mission to create workplaces and make the work of Armenian craftspeople recognizable to the world. Tufenkian Artisan Carpets has a workshop and a showroom in Yerevan, six showrooms in the United States and one shop in London. Tufenkian is the sole manufacturer of handmade carpets in Armenia that combines centuries-old traditions with modern trends. Woven from 100% natural Tibetan and Armenian wool in a variety of knot constructions, Tufenkian carpets reflect contemporary, transitional, and at the same time traditional patterns.

A part of the Tufenkian Carpet factory is combined with a showroom in the Yerevan city centre where the experienced carpet weavers demonstrate various techniques of carpet weaving and offer workshops. Each Tufenkian carpet is a clear reflection of Armenian time-honoured carpet traditions.
