Behind Tallinn old town lies the lively area of Kalamaja where Stella Soomlais Studio can be found. The atelier was established by Stella Runnel in 2011. In 2004, Stella had been tailoring bespoke bags for customers on commission, but as her business grew, so did her brand, and collections of different bags and accessories. Now, this atelier is a pioneer in responsible leather use that is run by multiple talented local leatherworkers. The noble concept of these craftspeople is to design fashionable and environmentally-aware leather products, based upon the principles of a circular economy.
Since 2015, Stella Soomlais Studio has proved how a leather atelier can be managed with minimal impact on the environment, and the team is always looking forward to becoming a zero-waste and climate-positive brand in coming years. To achieve this objective, the atelier must produce in an optimised way, with the common good of the environment in mind. The business started to offer help to other brands by producing custom made works tailored to their needs.
