Celebrating imperfections through wooden jewellery

  • Srečko creates jewellery that highlights the natural details of wood
  • He is completely self-taught in his craft
  • He uses ethically sourced wood from managed forests

Srečko Molk designs and handcrafts wooden jewellery pieces that fuse elegance, simplicity and nature's raw beauty. From a young age, he was mesmerized by the beauty and limitless potential of wood, discovering his passion during a visit to his relative’s carving studio. "Each piece of jewellery I make is hand carved, inspired by a story and shaped by a profound appreciation for the environment," Srečko says. He frequently embeds different elements into his designs, including precious and semi-precious stones, which creates a striking contrasts with the wood. Committed to the environment, Srečko never cuts down trees for his work. Instead, he sources wood from naturally fallen trees and responsibly-managed forests. This conscious approach results in jewellery that is both ethically crafted and aesthetically refined.

Why did you choose jewellery making?
I entered the world of jewellery design almost entirely by chance. It all started when a friend, who knew about my many years of working with wood and carving larger objects, asked me for a wooden ring. Later, designer Olga Košica introduced me to the fundamentals of jewellery design, granting me a deeper understanding of the craft – far beyond my initial perceptions.
What is one thing about your craft that people do not know?
I try to keep the wood’s natural form and design my pieces to be both beautiful and wearable. Many do not realise how much time and effort goes into preparing the wood – ensuring it stays strong, stunning and wearable as a piece of art. Every piece of jewellery I create requires time and precision.
What was the first object you made?
The first wooden ring I made helped me see how this natural material could be transformed into something elegant and unique. After I completed the piece, word quickly spread that I was creating unique wooden rings, sparking the public's interest. That ring marked the beginning of my journey in wooden jewellery design and I see it as a symbol of my creativity.
How do you incorporate imperfections in your designs?
I embrace the beauty of imperfections in my designs. Wood has a character of its own – knots, textures and tiny cracks that I do not hide but celebrate. These natural details become part of each piece's story. I believe imperfections add to the uniqueness and beauty of my jewellery, reflecting the authenticity of nature.
