Palmalisa Zantedeschi

Artisan, designer and entrepreneur, Palmalisa Zantedeschi defines herself as a 'marble creative'. She is the descendant of four generations of stonemasons and sculptors and was born in Verona, one of the most important centres for stone in Italy. She founded her business in 1989, inheriting her craft, to which she added her personal artistic production, from the family company opened in the 1960s. Palmalisa's atelier near Lake Garda is a place where artisans, sculptors and quarry experts collaborate and develop projects for architecture and design, creating floors, coverings, furnishings and objects for bespoke commissions.

Research plays a crucial role and involves exploratory journeys, inspections in search of new materials in newly opened quarries, experimentation and development of new techniques, as well as the deepening of centuries-old methods. "A stone project always takes shape starting from the careful study of the material, starting from a quarry formed over millions of years through an unpredictable mix of events," she explains. Once the block has been chosen, the transformation process begins.
