What skills do you need to practise your craft?
First and foremost, you need to cultivate patience with yourself and the learning journey. It is crucial to dedicate time to experimentation and allow space for trial and error. Understanding the origins and purposes of your creations is essential for evolving, particularly if you are self-taught.
What has inspired you in your creative process?
Cinematography has always captivated me, particularly the iconic hats in Western films, alongside the elaborate scenography and costumes prevalent in theatre productions. Perhaps this is why my creations often exude a dramatic flair. I am also fascinated by the transformative power of hats, as they possess the ability to unveil our authentic selves.
What do you love most about your profession?
I value the immense creative freedom I enjoy in my work. Despite crafting custom-made items, I have considerable flexibility in designing hats and guiding their creative trajectory. Moreover, this profession has introduced me to a multitude of remarkable individuals, fostering friendships with people from diverse corners of the globe whom I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to connect with.
Is there a memorable moment in your professional life?
I collaborated with a UK-based fashion brand that approached me to design an accessory for their upcoming Western-inspired clothing line. Initially commissioned for a single hat, the project expanded, culminating in the creation of 10 hats showcased in the brand's lookbook.
