Michel Fesquet, an engineer and former scientific researcher, is the founder of LiveHorn, a French studio dedicated to artisanal hi-fi making. Based in Palaiseau near Paris, he designs and builds high-end acoustic systems that combine engineering precision, audio innovation and fine woodworking. After more than 20 years in scientific research on complex systems, Michel transformed his lifelong passion for hi-fi systems into a craft practice. "Each piece is designed as both a sculptural object and a precision sound system," he explains. "My works are made entirely by hand in small series, requiring months of meticulous work." Michel's approach blends technical rigour with listening-led experimentation, in pursuit of absolute sonic transparency and spatial realism.
INTERVIEW
I am inspired by the golden age of the hi-fi in the 1960s and 1970s, when design, engineering and craftsmanship came together. I also think of brands like JBL, and iconic pieces such as the Paragon, which I find very inspiring.
I always use the same reference track: Dire Straits, Private Investigations. I know it perfectly. It has everything – bass, detail, space – so I can immediately hear if the system is balanced, precise, and working as it should.
I have two types of clients: music lovers looking for both sound quality and design, and companies seeking custom installations. I meet them, discuss their needs, and adapt each system to their space and expectations.
Two aspects come to mind: creating objects from nothing, which is very satisfying, and the human exchange. I like meeting clients who are already interested in my approach, and building something together through discussion and shared ideas.
