Daum, founded by Jean Daum in 1878 in Nancy, is one of the legendary French crystal manufacturers and a renowned international luxury maison. Daum has a strong heritage in the French Decorative Arts, particularly in the Art Nouveau period. The company counts more than 400 collaborations with great artists over nearly 140 years of history, and its exceptional creations were awarded with several prizes over the years. Initially, Daum was a glass manufacturer, and this practice was definitively replaced by crystal manufacturing in the 1930s. The atelier has a strong identity, due to its specific know-how – the lost wax technique.
The signature Daum technique uses pâte de cristal, an almost forgotten technique dating back to ancient Egypt, to create decorative objects and true works of art. Passed from generation to generation, the creation process is entirely hand-crafted. A lost wax moulding and foundry process ensures a very specific finish which is impossible to achieve through the traditional blown crystal technique. Maison Daum’s palette of 40 shades makes for unique colour effects.
