In 1767, King Louis XV chose as the Royal Glassworks a glass manufacturer in Münzthal, Saint-Louis-Lès-Bitche, whose roots dated back to 1586. The Royal Glassworks of Saint Louis was officially born and just a few years later, in 1781, it was the first in continental Europe to discover the secret formula of crystal, which soon became the core of its activity.
