Typography

Sottens, Switzerland

Upholding the craft of type-setting

Since 1988, Le Cadratin, founded by Jean-Renaud Dagon, has been preserving the ancient techniques of typography. The workshop's primary goal is to safeguard the heritage of this craft. Typography is a skill that has remained virtually unchanged since its invention by Gutenberg around 1450, and this until the second half of the 20th century. Thanks to the acquisition of old machines, Le Cadratin makes it possible to safeguard and promote this wonderful and traditional craft.

Those who work in this one-of-a-kind atelier are all skilled volunteers, who devote a great deal of their time to the workshop for the pleasure of seeing this craft alive. A dozen faithful volunteers are always on call. Having at heart the promotion and appreciation of typography, the workshop also welcomes various exhibitions by local artists, as well as offering guided tours and workshops, to share the wonders of a traditional craft that is being guarded by this devoted team of passionate craftspeople.
