A family legacy in international printing

Pierpaolo Pregnolato and his wife Margarita Fjodorova are the hand and mind behind Damocle Edizioni, a small independent publishing house. Pierpaolo established the atelier in 2009 to restore a centenary family tradition that had ended in the 1970s, with the advent of new printing technologies. Damocle Edizioni excels for the outstanding quality of its production and for its cherry-picked catalogue, which embraces classics, emerging authors and works previously unpublished in Italy.

The works of international authors published by Damocle Edizioni – from Ai Weiwei and Virginia Woolf to Allen Ginsberg and Jorge Luis Borges – are always presented in their original language with parallel text translations. A unique feature that is the result of Pierpaolo's recovery of different alphabets from across Europe, such as a rare set of 19th-century Hebrew wooden types from the Warsaw ghetto, Cyrillic wooden types from the Baltic countries, and original characters from Italy’s venerable printmaking tradition.
