Mohammed Bouchareb, founder of L'art traditionnel, is as luminous as his work. Chiselled lamps are not rare in Morocco, but the beautiful workshop of L'art traditionnel is where a real variety of lamps of different shapes and designs can be found. From adventurous to poetic, chiselled copper lamps of all sizes are on display, as in an enchanted world. Each lamp is chiselled by hand with precision and care, using the sharpest tools. The drawings are first executed with a pencil on transparent paper and then reproduced on metal.
Drawing inspiration from both tradition and international contemporary design, Mohammed and his team deliver masterpieces to the Royal palace and luxurious hotels, while also creating a more affordable range of objects. L'art traditionnel opened in 1970. Mohammed had learned his craft from his father. Since then he has never stopped. Mohammed’s five children all work and live abroad and so the workshop's future may not be in the family.
