Weaving
Keratsini, Greece
Inspired by the loom across generations
The story of Argalios began with a Christmas gift in 2011. That year, Ilias and Katerina Politis, the two founders of the atelier, offered their six children a traditional loom for kids. From this moment, the family’s passion for authentic handwoven creation has never ceased to grow. The object also reminded them of the pleasant memory of Katerina’s grandmother, who used to weave on a loom in the characteristic Meteora, back in the day.
Driven by a love for craftsmanship, the Politis’ family has since been committed to the revival of traditional looms and age-old techniques. Based in Athens, they create collections of woven bags and small pouches featuring traditional Greek designs. Original patterns from Crete and Metsovo are their first source of inspiration, in conjunction with Greece’s bright colours. The official launch of Argalios in 2013 was enough for the family to gain great visibility around the country, allowing them to enter into partnership with bigger companies seeking authentic products.
