A gem in French rug design

An essential reference for French decorative heritage, La Manufacture Cogolin has left its mark on 20th century rug design with its remarkable craftsmanship. Today, it is a well-kept secret among sophisticated clients in search of exceptional elegance and artisanal savoir-faire. Cogolin rugs are hand knotted or woven by local craftswomen in a small village near Saint-Tropez, where the workshop was first established in 1924. In 1928, visionary textile engineer Jean Lauer purchased the workshop and added 19th century Jacquard hand looms, which are still in use today. The traditional skills of the craftswomen, combined with Lauer’s groundbreaking innovations, helped propel the brand to international renown by the 1930s and establish collaborations with Europe’s finest designers, such as Christian Bérard, Jean-Michel Frank, Sir David Hicks and even the artist Jean Cocteau.
