Where the dining table is a theatre stage
Nestled in the Tuscan countryside, in the town of Calenzano, a spacious two-storey silversmith's workshop blurs the line between functional tableware and sculptural art. Founded in 1963 by master silversmith Franco Lapini and now run by his son, David, the atelier is famous for transforming gold, silver and brass into charismatic animal forms and richly decorated vessels. Ice buckets look like owls, turtles or dolphins, trays resemble miniature seascapes, and wine coolers appear as sculptural creatures, with each piece brought to life through precise chiselling and meticulous hand finishing.

Franco Lapini’s pieces turn the dining table into an artistic stage of realistic – and sometimes deliberately dramatic – shapes. Signature pieces include trolleys, tables, champagne holders, lamps and lost-wax castings in gilt or silver-plated bronze. Some works combine metal with porcelain and crystal, too. Besides its own creative collections, the atelier also offers fully customised creations for private clients.
