"Floriane Schmitt Studio is a textile creation studio,” claims Floriane Schmitt, a textile designer who is passionate about fabric manipulation and experimentation. Using traditional or forgotten techniques, Floriane designs new, unexpected textures and shapes to enhance everyday objects such as textile art or accessories. From bags and key rings to decorative objects such as cushions and throws, she turns her hand to a wide range of applications for her craft. "Everything can be customised," she says. Floriane strongly believes in craftsmanship, high quality, durability, and being attuned with one’s sensibility when creating. Her collection called Néosmock uses neoprene woven into Canadian smock, a centuries-old technique with relief and repeated patterns which she revived herself.

INTERVIEW
I believe textiles are so rich and diverse, but that they have been considered as less valuable than other crafts, probably because they were considered feminine. I wanted to explore these ancient techniques, use them in a modern way to ensure they do not get lost.
For the creative freedom, and the need to express myself away from another designer’s style.
I love any technique that allows me to create volume on textiles! Canadian smocks are special to me because I have been working with them for so long. They really embody what I love to design: a soft and inviting material with an organic repetitive pattern.
Any! I would be honoured. But I do not have a specific person in mind.
