The pillars of tapestry making

Dovecot Studios is a world-renowned tapestry studio in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland, and is a landmark centre for contemporary art, craft and design. Established by the 4th Marquess of Bute in 1912, it undertakes the production of private and public commissions of tapestry and handcrafted rugs, and holds a selection of works for sale. Dovecot is supported by the Dovecot Foundation, which seeks to bring the innovative work of contemporary artists and makers to a wider audience through a programme of cross-discipline exhibitions and events.

The studio continues a century-long heritage of collaboration with international artists including David Hockney, Louise Nevelson, Chris Ofili, and Victoria Crowe, to make exceptional works of art. Also, there is the Dovecot Apprentices Programme which encompasses cultural and educational partnerships with a special focus on the new generations of weavers. Housed in a former Victoria Bathhouse, Dovecot houses tapestry workshops, a gallery dedicated to contemporary arts and crafts, a café, a venue for events and a shop.
