In a quiet workshop in the mountains of Isère, Cathy Augias Waldura works with a combination of precision and instinct. Trained first as a mechanical engineer with a masters degree from Arts et Métiers in France, and retraining as a cabinetmaker with the Compagnons in Grenoble, she is now the furniture maker behind La Fabrique K. Her pieces include sculptural armchairs, tables and cabinets carved from French walnut and other local woods. "They are designed to reveal the character already present in the grain," explains Cathy. Walks in the surrounding mountains often shape her thinking, and the subtle lines of rocks, bark and moss quietly echo in her designs later. Alongside this instinctive relationship with nature runs a more architectural legacy. "I take inspiration from Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand, but also Bauhaus and the quiet imperfection of wabi-sabi," she shares. The result is contemporary furniture that feels grounded and tactile, and objects that invite people to slow down and notice the living material of her pieces.
