Organs of the past, organs for the present

Orgues Blancafort was founded in 1963 and has been run since 1999 by Albert, the fourth generation of a family devoted to delivering celestial music. They have built or restored more than 160 instruments in cathedrals, concert halls and private residences across Spain and abroad. Thanks to their work, the cultural and liturgical role of organs is preserved and perpetrated. Restoration of historic pieces goes hand-in-hand with the construction of state of the art organs, both roles employ traditional techniques but also always evolve. Their commitment is to manufacture contemporary instruments, researching both the architectural and cultural context of the commission, with an approach that also cherishes design.

The focus on acoustics is imperative. It takes at least two years to build an organ and Albert recalls with enthusiasm the beauty of the unseen parts, beyond pipes and keys. Among their most significant creations, the two located inside Antoni Gaudí’s buildings: the main organ of the Sagrada Familia, inaugurated ten years ago with the visit of Pope Benedict XVI, and the one of the Palau Güell, a building whose acoustics are considered to be the best in Barcelona, also equipped with an automatic reproduction system, it plays beautiful music every half an hour.
