Weaving in a historic time capsule

The weaving atelier Ábbatte takes its name from its location next to the ruins of a 13th century Cistercian abbey. The company's founder, Elena Goded, a biologist and former university professor who is passionate about botany and fabric dyeing, joined forces with Ana María Gil, a weaver since the age of 19. Here, they created a place where time is suspended, with manual looms, threads and natural colours, where everything, from the weaving to the dyeing, is done strictly by hand.

All the yarns come from natural fibres and are mostly spun by hand. The three-step dyeing process combines colours to achieve a special and unique array of hues. The company's creations are made with experience, patience and passion, and are intended to last a lifetime. They dye using natural colours and weave on manual looms, every detail is carried out by hand. Both Elena and Ana Maria respect that weaving is a slow craft and ensure they approach it with patience, dedication and expertise. They organise group tours of the atelier and educational workshops.
