Brimming with magic
- Annick makes one-of-a-kind hats and fascinators
- Her adventure as a milliner began in 2011
- She aims to achieve a sense of timeless aesthetic in every piece
Annick Roulet’s love for millinery goes back a long way, starting as a hobby with her sewing machine. One day, in 2011, she decided to fully train in millinery and dived into techniques from moulding hats to sewing straw, under the guidance of craftswoman Isabelle Haas. Today, Annick mixes traditional techniques and materials with modern developments, allowing for more creativity. "I sometimes use synthetic hybrid materials and 3D printing to make my hat moulds," she shares. Making sure each one is uniquely made for its future owner, Annick's aim with every hat is to fashion a piece that looks good even when turned upside down, inside out, or left lying around. "No loose threads. Everything neatly assembled. Like magic," she says.

INTERVIEW
The creativity of hats is infinite and varied. I never create two identical pieces. The possibilities are endless in terms of style or materials, and nothing is off limits. My only goal is to highlight a trait of the person who will wear my creation.
My craft is about revealing a facet of the person trying on the hat. I allow my customers to feel like themselves, while revealing or concealing themselves to others. The hat either makes them visible, or creates mystery because it hides part of the face.
The human connection during fittings for my designs. To see the customer's eyes sparkle because they see themselves looking beautiful in the mirror is a moment I love. Hat-wearing is a pampering session, a gift to the self, to look at oneself with respect. I believe the hat gives dignity.
Every day, I meet people who are surprised to see themselves in the mirror, looking at themselves with kindness and respect. The hat has the power to connect us with ourselves, because we allow ourselves to be revealed, and to connect with others, because we allow ourselves to be seen.
