A captivating dance of contrasting materials

  • Annick handcrafts interior decoration objects to enhance spaces
  • She has been creative since she was a child
  • Her background is in experimental interior architecture

Annick Petersen's journey with craftsmanship began in Lausanne where she trained as an interior architect. Moving to London, she was greatly influenced by the vibrant design scene and worked in several design firms to hone her skills. In 2009 she decided to found her own studio, Alp Design. Annick's work today is a testament to her unbridled creativity and her fascination with materials of all types, including plaster, leather and cord. She pushes boundaries through relentless experimentation, enjoying the unexpected, and finding beauty in controlled chaos. Her objects and space designs aim to highlight textures, strengths and weaknesses. Each project is crafted to evoke emotion and transform spaces, reflecting Annick's belief that interiors should be both functional and deeply moving.

Annick L Petersen is an expert artisan: she began her career in 1991.

INTERVIEW

I am currently using leather from natural hides coming from the dairy and meat industry. I am a vegetarian myself but feel that as long as people eat meat it would be a waste not to use this material. I love working with leather also because of how beautifully it ages with time.

In actual fact a lot of my inspiration comes very simply from all that surrounds me. This includes the natural world, so plants, seeds and other similar elements, as well as architecture and the people who surround me.

I have to confess that I have always been very creative, ever since my childhood. I grew up always creating things with my hands, this has been a theme throughout my life. I do not think I could not do what I do.

I love working with different materials and techniques. Always trying something new keeps my work interesting and exciting – and this in itself is part of the process.
