The Kalhath Foundation is a Lucknow-based institution dedicated to development of artisans working in the city’s centuries-old craft traditions. The foundation was established in 2016 by Maximiliano Modesti and Mohammed Amine Dadda who believe that craft excellence and artisan welfare are inseparable. Operating through the Kalhath Institute, it offers artisans a paid annual fellowship combining design and art history education, museum visits and industry placements in global luxury markets. The results of its high profile collaborations have been exhibited worldwide and feature in museum collections in Hong Kong, Delhi and Zurich.

The Kalhath Institute works with artisans practising zardozi, a technique in which metallic thread is hand stitched to build intricate patterns, and chikankari, the delicate shadow embroidery worked in white thread on fine fabric. Commissioned specially for Homo Faber 2026, a glazed moon jar set is enveloped in pure pashmina and metal lace following a contemporary technique. The pieces reflect a deep appreciation for material culture, sustainability and the preservation of traditional textile and ceramic arts.
