Artist and maker Shehrbano Salahuddin's practice centres on reinterpreting weaving and metalwork traditions from South Asia. She works with several different metals to explore the nature of weaving and its potential in contemporary settings. Shehrbano's studies in mathematics, fine art and architecture have shaped her vision between analytical structure and visual intuition, encouraging experimentation and allowing her to translate the logic of textile into metal. Her creations merge traditional weaving principles with industrial materials and techniques. Inspired by Islamic sacred geometries and nature, her work revolves around the interaction between pattern, light and material. "I enjoy the soothing effect of my practice, as the repetitive nature of the process puts me in a meditative state of flow," she says.
