Talismanic forms from the everyday
- Patricia's jewellery combines precious metals with unexpected materials
- Her practice is guided by experimentation and intuition
- She rejects fixed boundaries between disciplines
In the medieval village of Hérisson in France, Patricia Lemaire's home functions as her atelier, welcoming visitors to discover her craft. Trained in object design at the École des Arts Appliqués de Metz and contemporary jewellery at the École des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg, she has developed an independent practice since graduating in 1993. “My pieces explore the relationship between the object and the body, questioning how forms inhabit, transform and interact with those who wear them,” Patricia says. Combining precious metals such as gold and silver with organic elements including bones, eggshells, cherry stems and spices, she transforms neglected materials into poetic and mysterious works.

INTERVIEW
I see myself as an independent artist, not belonging to any particular school or movement. I move freely between jewellery and sculpture. The experimental one-off pieces I create are often starting points for my wearable series. Much like haute couture and prêt-à-porter, these different forms of expression invite people to explore my work.
My practice is based on a direct encounter with materials. Rather than casting or working with moulds, I forge, engrave and shape metals by hand to allow the material to guide the form. I work with many different techniques, from gold leaf to lacquer made with eggshell, constantly experimenting and pushing the boundaries of jewellery making.
My inspiration comes from daily life, especially food and our relationship with what enters our bodies. I locally source materials such as bones, eggshells and food remnants, transforming traces of everyday life into jewellery and sculpture.
My atelier is central to my work. It is both a place of creation and exchange, open to the public several days a week. Visitors can see me working, discover my materials and understand the processes behind my pieces. It is also a way of sharing a craft that many people have never encountered before.
