Avant-gardist craftsmanship in knit
Founded in 1962 by Silvia Bocchese, Maglificio Italiano Lana e Seta began as a workshop producing silk organza, and has since evolved into a leading reference point in the knitwear industry. In recent years, the company adopted the acronym-based name Miles Manifattura by which it is now widely known. Recognised for its skilled, traditional craftsmanship, Miles Manifattura has consistently dedicated itself to serving the visions of great creatives. "Ideas can take us beyond what we believe to be our limits," stated Silvia on the sparks that come from collaborations. The company's extensive archive boasts 30,000 garment prototypes and nearly 20,000 meticulously preserved digitised knitwear patterns.
Today, Miles Manifattura seamlessly blends this rich heritage with state-of-the-art machinery, creating knitwear that often transcends into the realm of sculpture, as exemplified by the Sandra Backlund collection of 2009 and the Dreams installation at Homo Faber 2024, featuring iconic Alaïa dresses. Azzedine Alaïa, a pivotal figure from Miles Manifattura's early days and a close friend of Silvia's, profoundly understood knitwear's potential, a philosophy that continues to drive the company's innovative spirit and its significant impact on the global fashion landscape.
