The delicate dance of glass

  • Luna and Luca continue the tradition of Murano glassmaking in Venice
  • The duo combines their complementary skills in beadmaking and lampworking
  • They use traditional tools and vintage glass to make beads, jewellery and sculptures

United in life and artistic practice, Luna Darin and Luca Marcolongo honour the ancient art of Murano glassmaking through their studio Alchimia Vitrum. The name, which means the alchemy of glass, echoes the transformation of molten glass into luminous creations in their hands. Luna follows this through the historic Venetian tradition of bead making, recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, while Luca pursues lampworking techniques. Together they create beads, jewellery and small decorative objects that combine tradition with contemporary design. Luna is a member of the Venetian Committee for the Safeguarding of the Art of Glass Beads, which regularly organises exhibitions, jewellery shows and events connected to Venice Glass Week to promote and preserve this unique heritage.

Luna Darin & Luca Marcolongo are expert artisans: they began their career in 2010 (Luna) and 2018 (Luca).

INTERVIEW

Luna: We fell in love in 2016, and then I noticed Luca’s extraordinary artistic skills. After years spent working in my family’s historic shop, in 2025 we opened our own studio to shape a shared artistic identity through Alchimia Vitrum, combining our skills, sensibilities and visions.

Luca: I hope people can feel the love, care and passion we pour into every single piece we create. Each object carries the time, precision and emotion behind our work, preserving the human touch within the delicate beauty of glass.

Luna: We love returning to the roots of Murano glassmaking by using traditional tools and vintage glass. By studying techniques and materials from the past, we continue to improve our skills and hope to bring this heritage into the future through our own contemporary vision.

Luca: We like to think that glass craftsmanship will always be an art form, one that continues to evolve across generations while preserving the knowledge, creativity and human touch that make Murano glass so unique.
