From structural glass forms to forms in flux, Eeva Käsper's works derive from memories, personal experiences, conscience and perceptions. Eeva found her true passion for glass during her first-year studies at the Estonian Academy of Arts that also led her to go on and later teach at the very same academy. In 2009 Eeva set up Klaasiklubi and later her very own studio in 2018. Just like her business name Serene, her professional life is clear yet calm. Her studio was built to reflect the idea of serenity with careful planning, large windows to overlook the beautiful southern Estonian fields. Eeva's work and spirit live in this unique studio alongside the ever-changing colourful seasons. She has exhibited her work in over 80 exhibitions across Europe, Russia, Turkey, and Korea. Besides this, she has won several awards locally and abroad.

What types of techniques do you use?

I use different warm glass techniques such as fusing, kiln casting, and combinations of different kiln techniques. I have developed an original way to use sand in the mosaic glass technique and also the so-called origami technique in kiln casting.

What does "well made" mean to you?

I believe it's the quality of thought and handiwork together that creates the art piece. Personally, I enjoy working with my hands, the work process, and the technical challenges that working with glass offers.

What do you enjoy the most in your craft?

The material glass itself. I usually work alone and for me, it’s a good and bad thing at the same time. It's great in the sense that I can work whenever I want to, nobody disturbs me and I can manage my working processes. And bad in the sense that I can't share the joyful moments with anyone.

What is a memorable moment in your career?

When my series Beyond was exhibited in an exhibition back in 2012, a woman came to me and expressed how much my work touched her. Even though the series had no written concept presented during the exhibition, I knew that the woman had fully acknowledged the message of my work.
