Dawa Luz Maria Garcia Martinez is a founder and active member of the Ye'kwana Women Weavers Association in Bolívar, Venezuela. Living in the Venezuelan Amazon region, women in the community practise an ancient craft of basket weaving, producing works of extraordinary beauty and symbolism that have been exhibited around the world. Dawa’s close relationship with her great-grandmother allowed her to learn and understand in depth the traditions, practices and values of her culture. This knowledge fuels her desire to promote and preserve the tradition of weaving, an integral part of Ye'kwana identity.
