The limitless expression of ceramics
- Daniela creates hand painted ceramics inspired by Venice
- She is the founder of Scuola Ceramica Online, an online ceramic school
- Teaching her craft is an important part of her practice
Born in Brazil, raised in Chile and now based in Italy, Daniela Levera brings together diverse cultural influences into her ceramics practice. Her passion for ceramics flourished when she moved to Venice in 2010 to pursue a degree in product design. Four years later, Daniela opened her own studio. “Ceramics is an endless art form,” she says. In addition to making elegant tableware and decorative objects, Daniela is a committed educator and mentor, encouraging others to discover the magic of clay. In 2021, she launched Scuola Ceramica Online, a learning platform that supports an international community of ceramic artists. Daniela also helps creatives develop through private mentorship programmes and entrepreneurship courses at the Istituto Gaetano Ballardini in Faenza.

INTERVIEW
There is always something new to learn, and opening the kiln remains exciting even after many years. Each piece is a lesson in patience, dedication and discovering how far your skills can grow.
When my students could no longer attend in-person classes during Covid, I started creating videos so they could continue practising from home. As the videos gained popularity, people from around the world began reaching out. This led to online lessons, a dedicated learning platform and a growing online community.
Teaching has made my practice more disciplined and focused. Balancing education with production requires careful planning, so I dedicate specific time to designing and creating collections for my studio, clients and exhibitions. Over the years, I have also built a small team that supports me in the studio, allowing me to maintain both the creative and educational sides of my work.
The craft of ceramics is already living its future. Once considered a minor art form, it is now recognised both as a craft and as a medium for contemporary art. Ceramics are increasingly present in major exhibitions and cultural events, reflecting the growing appreciation they have gained over the past decade.
