The origin of Bronze Age can be traced back to Bronze Age Art Foundry, founded in 1997 by sculptor Otto du Plessis in Simon’s Town, South Africa. Trained in sculpture and drawing, Otto established a respected foundry that became a centre for artistic collaborations and later evolved into the collaborative practice led by Otto and industrial designer Charles Haupt as it is today. Bringing distinct skills together, the duo have developed a practice that encompasses both artistic sculpture and commercial design.

Today, Bronze Age operates as a craft, design and sculpture practice producing bespoke furniture, architectural elements and cast works in brass, bronze, copper and aluminium. The studio collaborates with a network of artisans, engineers and foundry specialists, combining fabrication, casting and surface treatments to create tactile metal objects. Digital tools such as 3D scanning and printing now form part of their process, allowing sculptural forms to move seamlessly from digital model to cast metal while retaining their signature crafted character.
