Puscina Flowers

Flower designing

Montefollonico, Italy

The flower girls

  • Puscina grows seasonal, local and organic flowers
  • It was founded by three sisters to save their family farm
  • The studio specialises in weddings

Some people are born with a vocation. Others find theirs by chance after experiencing many different things. This is case with sisters Laura and Teresa Cugusi, who worked in many artistic fields before going back to their family farmhouse in Tuscany. There, they established the first flower farm of the area, specialised both in the cultivation of seasonal flowers and in sustainable design, with a focus on weddings. The sisters decided to start a business together, in order to save their family farm that had fallen into disuse. One day, Laura and Teresa made some bunches with French honeysuckle, sainfoin and other wildflowers and sold them to nearby restaurants, they were a hit.

Laura & Teresa Cugusi are rising stars: they began their career in 2016.

INTERVIEW

Laura: When we started in 2014, there wasn’t anything like that in our country: growing seasonal, local and organic flowers for sustainable floral design was a novelty back then. We got our inspiration from Northern Europe and the US.

Teresa: Of course, growing our own flowers in the fields without greenhouses, means following the season and using only what is available. But this is not a real problem. We have 200 species and 400 varieties, so we always find the best solution to please our customers.

Laura: Soft, romantic and feminine, simple and natural. We value imperfections, as they give strong character to every arrangement. But I won’t say our creations are wild. On the contrary, we like to keep them neat, so they are not confusing to the eye.

Teresa: We always choose a single protagonist - one big flower or more, provided they are of the same species. We work a lot with colours: behind every palette, there’s a project. But in general we prefer pastel shades, that are perfect for weddings.
