Flower designing

Arezzo, Italy

Romance in Tuscan warmth

  • Marta specialises in creating floral arrangements for weddings
  • Her style is organic, deeply influenced by her native Tuscany
  • She prefers smooth lines, rich textures and gradient colours

Born and bred in Tuscany, surrounded by its picture-perfect landscape and country charm, Marta Petrioli developed a strong sense for aesthetics early on. After studying foreign languages and literature and interior design, she turned to flowers to actively create beauty. As a first step, Marta opened a small flower and home decoration shop in Arezzo's city centre. A few years down the line, she launched her studio Flowers Living, becoming a full-time flower designer, focusing on weddings and events. “Of course, I had to take floral classes to learn the basics, such as how to clean and care for the flowers,” she explains. “However, I was mostly self-taught. I am always curious and love staying up to date with novelties. There is nothing like practice for developing skills."

Marta Petrioli is an expert artisan: she began her career in 2012.

INTERVIEW

My style is organic, natural, spontaneous and timeless. I prefer smooth lines to geometric ones, rich textures to minimalism, and gradient colours to sharp contrasts. That is, if I am given complete freedom. As my arrangements are custom-made, I adapt my vision to my clients’ requests.

I would say romanticism with a touch of decadence and melancholy. My favourite flowers are English roses with heavy corollas, soft peonies and lush hydrangeas. I do not like cheerful sunflowers and calla lilies, they are too minimalist!

The warmth of my pieces comes from Tuscany's beautiful nature, and my beloved Val d’Orcia's green hills and blue sea. The local materials I work with also convey this very same feeling, from earthy terracotta and travertine to local wood and even marble.

Constantly coming up with fresh ideas can be difficult. Flower varieties and colours are not infinite, and the process of making arrangements can be repetitive. It is the human factor that brings magic: when my clients’ wishes are combined with my artistic touch. While the result is not always innovative, it is always truly unique.
