Nestled in Bregenzerwald since 1922, Devich Holzschuherzeugung crafts refined wooden-soled footwear, remaining faithful to designs developed in the 1940s. The unique character of wood, leather, and fur ensures each pair is one-of-a-kind, whether boots, clogs, or sandals. In 2014, Daniel Devich assumed leadership as the fourth generation, alongside his father and two sisters. The manufacturer sources materials sustainably within a 300 km radius, including leather from tanneries in Northern Italy.
The factory in Hittisau predominantly uses poplar, a resilient local wood, highlighting the business' commitment to durability. Rooted in ergonomic solutions, their designs evolved into lighter, more elegant forms, while still prioritising back support and posture. Nowadays, automation streamlines the wooden component production, while the manual craftsmanship lies in stitching, punching, and adhering fur or leather onto the shoe's top by hand.
