Zhong Shi · Li Xiang

This installation by Wanbing Huang was crafted from natural ramie fibre, woven and stitched to form a self-supporting structure. Inspired by Guangdong’s caizha craft, the traditionally employed bamboo frame was replaced by fibre tension, producing a more lightweight skeleton. Referencing Chinese cosmological thought, the piece evokes the emergence of the universe, with an outer shell suggesting the world’s limits, and fibres forming a central axis animated by Qi, the vital force of life.
