Lumen

This vessel by Susan Collett was coil built from hammered strips of porcelain. The form began with the piece inverted and then was turned upright to engage a more intuitive flow. A thin skin of glaze was finally applied to achieve various degrees of translucency. Embodying the tension of strength against fragility, the piece pushes the boundaries of porcelain towards the edge of physical collapse.
