The green painted face of this moon mask is the raven who, according to Kwakiutl legend, released the sun and moon. The red on the rim represents the blood moon when it is closest to the sun. It is carved from western red cedar, the eyes and teeth are abalone shells, and the round edge is trimmed with cedar rope.
